Located in Baggot Street, newly opened café and patisserie Eathos specialises in healthy eating with an indulgent twist. Lisa Murrin who runs the café with her brother Peter talked to us about the global influences behind her new venture and her life-long quest to learn more about feel-good food.

Lisa spotted the emerging health trend early, and combined it with her own personal experience and passion – as well as the economic turnaround – to create something really special.

Located on Upper Baggot St, Eathos maintains a unique, fresh approach to food that has Dublin community spirit at its heart.

It’s no surprise that people and ideas are the real currency of the business, as Lisa is a keen social media savant who has amassed more than 5,000 followers on her Instagram “The Health Balance”.

When Eathos first opened its high-gloss white doors in May the place was met with mixed reviews as diners and passersby felt it bore more than a passing resemblance to Ottolenghi’s in London… The young brother and sister team behind the venture, Peter and Lisa Murrin, come from a family with over 45 years in the food business and they know their stuff. The place is light, bright and buzzy and the food tastes great.

The Gloss

The Murrin siblings have a deep family connection to the world of food. Lisa, along with a number of her family members studied culinary arts, and both her and Peter have worked for their family business, high end catering company With Taste.

Their menu was compiled after a year of testing hundreds of recipes, selecting the best Irish produce. As provenance and quality is of utmost importance to Eathos, the team have a long list of great Irish producers who supply them, including Keelings, McGeoughs Artisan Butchers and coffee from 3FE.

The Taste

I couldn’t resist sampling Sesame Coated Sweet Potato and Pumpkin Cakes. A rainbow of ravishing plant-based goodies arrived, beautifully plated, with a touch of indulgent Toonsbridge halloumi – feta would have tipped me over the edge here but sautéed mushrooms and beet hummus added the creaminess I craved.

Even the leaves, lightly dressed and ostensibly a garnish, are vibrant and flavour packed. A potato cake and Rosti hybrid with the best bits of both, was subtly spiced, sweet and filling enough to ensure I had leftovers to box up. The dish that keeps on giving.
